Backstreet Boys Back For APL

Backstreet Boys Back For APL

Just like a revived trend, it seems like the Backstreet Boys are always back, with APL Photography capturing the boy band at the annual Beautiful Girls Fashion Lunch at Flemington.

The internationally acclaimed boy band entertained 600 fashion forward females, with the boys themselves bringing back retro-inspired trends of printed tees, caps and jeans, sported by the band when they first came about in the early 90s.

This was the first performance by the band since arriving in Australia and before commencing their Australian 2010 Tour, ‘THIS IS US’.

APL Photography also snapped the Myer fashion parade, which showcased the Autumn/Winter racewear looks, and featured Myer Racing Ambassador Rebecca Twigley and Menswear Ambassador Kris Smith, who were also captured by the APL flash.

Chelsea Butler and Scott McGregor, Myer Fashions on the Field couples competition ambassadors, were also at the event. Anthony Licuria also snapped up Lauren Phillips, Rhys Uhlich and Sarah Madden, in true fashion and celebrity-spotting season.

Mr Hill Looks At the APL Lens

Mr Hall Looks At the APL Lens

Our socialite photographer started snapping at Hotel Barkly on Sunday, with the hot-spot playing host to Melbourne’s most prestigious social scene.

On his first shift as photographer at Barkly, Anthony snapped up Jockey, Nick Hall, who was celebrating his Blue Diamond Stakes win from Saturday, and posed with girlfriend, Kelsey Mannix, for the APL Photography lens. The snap-happy photograph was published in today’s Herald Sun, in Sport Confidential.

While capturing Hall is a great achievement on its own, particularly after his win, APL Photography has another merit for its portfolio with the publication of his image in the Herald Sun. Anthony is definitely rising as a prolific and in-demand photographer, and has come a long way in his year-young business.

Miranda Kerr Meet APL

Miranda Kerr Meet APL

The challenge was set for APL Photography to venture to Central Pier to capture the first glimpse of the Autumn/Winter trends to grace our shores, presented by David Jones.

APL Photography ventured to Central Pier to capture the first glimpse of the Autumn/Winter trends to grace our shores, presented by David Jones. Amongst the 450 guests, including celebrities, media, VIPs and Australian identities, APL Photography captured David Jones Brand Ambassador, Megan Gale, this time off the catwalk and seated front row.

Rhys Uhlich, Shane Warne, Emma Freedman, and designer, Alannah Hill, were also captured by our socialite photographer, along with Rebecca Madden, Gary Lyon and Georgia Sinclair.

Model, Miranda Kerr, posed on and off the catwalk for APL, with the Australian beauty owning the runway with charisma and her signature smile.

The David Jones Autumn/Winter 2010 launch, ‘A Long White Winter’, showcased the A – Z of Australia’s most celebrated designers, with fashion ambassador, Miranda Kerr, sporting the new season’s looks.

Emerging designer, Bianca Spender, debuted on the David Jones runway, while Carla Zampatti’s collection brightened up the typical winter shades with purple and red. Alannah Hill continues to blend cute and quirky, with sequin embellished, pink designs and layers of pearl necklaces.

Jumpsuits, bows, sheer fabrics, trenches and coats in all lengths, colours and materials are all in vogue for the coming season, as are puffy sleeves, high-waisted pants and sharp shoulders. Parachute pants, leather of all sorts, from skirts to gloves, leggings, draping and one-shouldered designs are also part of the season’s style.

Simona made a ‘pimping in pink’ statement, with leopard-print fur coats, leggings, skirts and hats, teamed with fuchsia. Gorman revives the 80s this season with the return of retro bringing back tunics and leather skirts, while Anna Thomas revives geek chic and the dandy girl.

Lisa Ho shortened the hemline this season, tailoring dresses while structuring the shoulders for a strong silhouette. The love of leather this season is particularly explored by George Gross and Harry Who, in an assortment of leather jackets of varying lengths and colours.

Tulle is also having its moment as a mini trend, with brides and ballerinas being ahead of this fashion statement. The showstoppers at the event were Sass and Bide, keeping it minimal to their black and cream colour palette, with metallic warrior finishes and futuristic embellishments.

As for the men, Calibre continues to provide exceptional pieces, minimal in colour, however beautifully tailored. The wet-look jeans are perfect for the fashion- conscious male, teamed with tailored check shirts and layered with this season’s pea coat.

Akira, Alex Perry, Arthur Galan, Collette Dinnigan, Easton Pearson, Fleur Wood, Ginger & Smart, Kirrily Johnston, Sabatini, Thurley, Trelise Cooper, Willow and Zimmermann completed the collection of designers on the David Jones runway.

The parade showcased the changing face of Australian fashion, encompassing the excitement to come in the seasons ahead, and with the first major runway this fashion season, David Jones continues to show that ‘there’s no other store like, David Jones’.

Cisco Adler Poses For Valentines Day

Cisco Adler Poses For Valentines Day

It’s that time of year again when St Kilda closes its streets to the hustle and bustle of cars, and opens its cultural heart to Melbourne. This year the festival celebrates turning 30, and while most cringe at even considering they will now be the big 3-0, St Kilda embraced its age and experience of knowing how to throw one helluva party.

APL Photography captured the crowds of festival goers along the streets of St Kilda, enjoying the atmosphere on offer. As a man in demand, Anthony hopped from different venues celebrating the abundance of festivities, with the Oakley Rooftop Party being this years place to be.

The strictly guest list-only event is an annual occurrence at the Oakley headquarters, and this year housed a mingling mass of celebrities. APL Photography captured Aussie supermodel Rhys Uhlich, as well as beauty Pia Miller. Michael and Lindy Klim also attended, as did DJ Grant Smilie. American musician, Cisco Adler, also attended the event, who has previously been linked to celebrities such as Mischa Barton, Paris Hilton and Lauren Conrad.

Today was the last day of the weeklong birthday bash for the festival, and we can expect more photographic ventures from Anthony soon to come.

 Who will graduate?

Who will graduate?

Anthony has already taken you behind the scenes at the LMFF hair and make-up trials, and continues to share his backstage pass to bring you the model casting of the fashion season.

The casting for the 2010 L’Oréal Melbourne Fashion Festival saw more than 200 models waiting to strut their stuff and secure a position on the coveted runway.

Festival Director, Karen Webster, was among the selection panel of LMFF project managers and stylists who had to sort through the room of beautiful people and find the perfect models for the LMFF catwalk.

With perfect postures, pouts and poses being amongst the criteria, models at castings are also judged on their figure, look, attitude, personality, and walk. So they can talk the talk, but can they walk the walk? To see who made the final cut, you’ll have to check out the runways between March 14 – 21 and follow APL Photography’s coverage of the festival.

Serena Aces the photo with APL

Serena Aces the photo with APL

Where does a World No.1 tennis player go after winning a Grand Slam? Perhaps a relaxing soak and massage in a hotel to relax after an intense two-week tournament would do the trick? Not the case for Serena Williams who was spotted at Eve on Saturday night.

Mere hours after winning her 12th Gram Slam title against Justine Henin in the Australian Open finals, Serena Williams celebrated her victorious win at the South Melbourne bar, with APL Photography snapping up the tennis champ.

Williams had a private room booked for her and her entourage, opting for the Melbourne social scene as her court for the night.

This is another A-lister to add to Anthony’s expanding portfolio of photographed famous faces, and a great way for our photographer to celebrate the end of the Australian Open.

Anthony also snapped up Vince Colosimo on the night who posed with the tennis ace, with the photo published in today’s Herald Sun. Snaps to Anthony!

The Fairest Of Them All

The Fairest Of Them All

The catwalks are being set up, the garments are being tailored, and the models are trialling their makeup backstage at L’Oréal Melbourne Fashion Festival’s official hair and make-up trials. Fashion and beauty season is upon us and APL Photography captured the first finishing touches to bold lips and flushed cheeks.

Anthony went behind the scenes, before faces were primed and foundation was set, and snapped festival make-up director Rae Morris, working her magic on her model canvases.

The event showcased the latest hair and make-up trends, which will feature on the LMFF runways. On the beauty scene, defined and shapely eyebrows complement thick Egyptian-style eye-lined eyes. Flawless faces have washed away that summer glow, and have lightly blushed cheekbones, contrasted with deep purple lips, which are making a statement this beauty season.

APL Photography also captured festival hair directors Brad Ngata and Catarina Di Biase, trialling the hair trends for the coming autumn/winter season.  Twisted knots to form beehives, complemented with wispy fringes, seem to be the dominant style for the perfect hair day this frosty season.

Festival fever has just begun, with this just being the tip of the make-up brush. Anthony will snap up all the runway poses during L’Oréal Melbourne’s Fashion Festival during March 14 – 21.

Cucumber lens masks on the APL camera

Dancing for APL

Dancing for APL

Tennis fever is still well and truly in full swing, but the action seems to be happening off the court with the Cussons Pure Oasis tent hitting its own grand slam amongst the Australian Open attendees.

A chance to escape the sweat of the game, Cussons Pure Oasis has been offering a cool place to be pampered amongst the tranquillity of a rainforest-type enclosure. The tent offers refreshingly cool cucumber eye masks, hand massages, foot spas and hydrating hair massages.

The rooftop garden area attracted celebrities on day 7 of the Open, with APL Photography snapping up the faces ready for some rest and relaxation. Brodie Young hosted the rooftop party, with 2007 idol winner, Natalie Gauci, providing entertainment on the day. Other mingling guests included Guy Sebastian, Brodie Harper, Daniel MacPherson, Jules Lund and Neighbours star Carla Bonner.

With another week to go at the Open, it would definitely be worth taking the time out to relax at Cussons Pure Oasis. This could well possibly be the closet Anthony has come to relaxing in the past year!
