Oaks Day

APL’s coverage of the races continues to capture the fashions, the celebrities and the spirit of spring racing. Star favourites and new faces were snapped up against the racing scene at Oaks Day, traditionally known as the day for the ladies.

In the past, Oaks Day was all about revealing flesh, skin was in and the more of it showing, the better. However, this year the look for the ladies was very tasteful and elegant, adopting glamorous styles from the 40s, 50s and even the mod 60s. Dresses were well-tailored and styled with the appropriate pair of shoes and clutch, and headwear to match.

Pussycat Doll, Ashley Roberts, was in town and was naturally snapped by Anthony Licuria – there’s no escaping the APL camera! The doll happily posed in a one-shouldered, black mini, embellished with a feather shoulder which is the statement of the season, topped off with a little top hat to complete the look.

Laura Dundovic made a statement with a flamingo-like fascinator, with the fuchsia screaming against her pure white dress. Dundovic was snapped alongside celebrity milliner, Louis Marlette, who made his own statement in a jockey-inspired outfit of leggings and boots, with a cheetah print jacket.

Kimberly Davis kept her hemline below the knee in her simple, yet graceful ensemble, while Rebecca Twigley wore a flowy Aurelio Costarella in soft pastels.

Lara Bingle, Georgia Sinclair, Kelly Landry and Sonia Kruger were amongst the other female celebrities celebrating in style, with fashions-on-the-field ambassador, Pia Miller, getting my vote for best dressed, looking chic, elegant, classy and feminine.

With such an array of designs, styles, and colours to choose from, the ladies’ outfits really do make the cup carnival. However the blokes are also in sight at the Oaks, wearing sharp suits, statement ties, and some even opting for the bow tie. Anthony Callea, Brad Miller and Campbell Brown were amongst the well-groomed men captured by APL.

Another day of exceptional coverage of the exciting atmosphere at the races, with Stakes Day still to come. Watch this space.
