There is something of an air of exhilaration in New York during Fashion Week. It’s probably the combination of the cool crisp air, the snow, the lights of the grand buildings shimmering through the haze and the abundance of energetic freneticism that occur as the beautiful people rush from show to show and events to events.
The cooler weather also encourages layering and you see fashion and beauty editors, models and celebrities rugged up to the nines, yet looking fashionable and stylish which adds to the whole glamour of NYFW.
The week started of with an amazing high for APL. After the short jaunt to New York from LA, I checked in at my home away from home, 60 Thompson, in downtown Soho. Friends that were in town for NYFW beckoned to go out and we had a great time at various celebrity filled hot spots including; Lavo and the Standard.
Woke up for the first day of NYFW and it was an extremely brisk 13 degrees. First show to cover the legendary label Carolina Herrera who showed a collection of highly chic garments in classic silhouettes for AW14. This was the start of a week that would entail APL shooting the parades of amongst others; Angel Sanchez, Dennis Basso, Alice + Olivia, Libertine, Badgley Mischka and Naeem Khan.
This year, more than others, APL managed to photograph a very high number of celebrities attending the shows which are featured in our Street Style segments on the APL Photography page.
Amongst our conquests; vanguard of the fashion world, the icy Anna Wintour, legendary photographer Bill Cunningham, local girl Lindy Klim on several occasions, actress Anna Kendrick, Suits star Anna Rafferty, Vogue Japan’s guru of style Anna Dello Russo who incidentally APL struck a rapport with (she posed for us on many occasions), Miroslava Duma and on and intimate basis, at celebrity hangout Tao, Helena Christensen with Kate Bosworth. Finally at the Michael Kors show, we photographed Michael Douglas.
At APL, we certainly kept ourselves busy during the week and covered almost all of the big parades and events. We even managed to do a location shoot with Lucy Mcintosh.
Inspite of the busy and hectic schedule and the tiring days, the APL trip to NYFW was enjoyable and exciting. And just for you lovers of Sex In The City, we even managed to squeeze in a picture of the famous doorway to lead character, Carrie’s apartment.
For all coverage of NYFW head to the APL Photgraphy FB page or www.aplphotography.com.au.
But stay tuned this year we reach a milestone with the 5th Birthday of APL photography and there are plans for a huge celebration.
